Grey Knights
Having collected and painted Dark Angels for the best part of 2 years, I was ready to try out something different. Dark Angels continue to be my core army (I'm currently building up to about 7,300 points), but i was definitely ready to mix things up a little.
I always liked the idea of Grey Knights, but I wanted to do something different from the traditional silver/grey colour scheme. I had spent 2 years working on other traditional colours such as the green, black and bone of the Green wing/ravenwing/deathwing units so I was looking for something that moved away from the flatter tones.
I found something very unique and the result of this project is that Grey Knights are now my "specialist" second project. I tend to spend a lot of time on each model, so it helps me to work on other things and then go back to this on going project when I'm completely fresh.
I was inspired by a group of guys over at Tale of Painters who adopted this phenomenal colour scheme: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/showcase-grey-knight-purifers.html#more. This colour scheme was based on the original Daemon Hunter scheme which was black armour with white helmets.
The artist mixed Abbadon Black with a "French Blue" paint, followed by progressive hard high lights of GW Fang, Russ and Fenrisian Greys.
I swapped out the French Blue with Fang and created a mix of circa 50:50 Abbadon Black and Fang which lead to a lighter shade from the photos in the link. I found using a syringe (that you can buy from any good model shop) is the easiest way to measure it out and I store the mixture in an old Citadel paint pot.
Full Colour run down is as follows:

Shoulder pads (painted before I paint the armour colour so the dry brushing doesn't hit the armour):

The army is growing in size, and I will add more detailed shots in due course. For now, here are shots of Paladins, "Standard" Grey Knights, a Storm Raven and a Dreadnought.
A future post will show the Dread knight and some closeups of the existing models.
